Thanks to Earnie Istook, we're about to have an Oklahoma 'hoedown' that Rodgers and Hammerstein would be proud of.
Monday, Istook announced he is seeking the Republican nomination to run against incumbent Gov. Brad Henry, a Democrat. This leaves the 5th Congressional district seat open and several Republicans who covet the position, are lining up. Within hours, Denise Bode, current member of the Corporation Commission and political opportunist, announced her candidacy, claiming, "This is what I'm supposed to do" and, "This is my highest and best use." Bode, an obvious graduate of the Phyllis Schlafly Charm School, must be getting massive testosterone injections (or LSD) from Sen./Dr. Coburn to make such a statement.
The rest of the field, so far, includes Lt. Gov. Mary Fallin plus state Rep. Kevin Cavley, and Rep. Mike Morgan.
The cascading effect of Earnie's action could create open seats in the Corporation Commission, the Lt. Governor and two house seats.
This is going to be fun because most of these politicos have forgotten Ronald Reagan's 11th commandment.
Keywords: Oklahoma, Earnest Istook, Governor, and Republicans.
