Gays and Opportunity

Last week, I overheard a couple of Democratic Party insiders bemoaning the California Supreme Court's recent decision to overturn the state's ban on gay marriage. The consensus voiced by these political veterans was that the Republicans would us this as a campaign weapon this fall against Democratic candidates for state offices.

There is no doubt that the gay marriage issue will be contentious this November. But I have a suggestion for party operatives; don't play their game using their rules. It's a no-win from the start.

First, this isn’t about religion or religious teachings. Elected officials place their hands on a Bible and swear to uphold the Constitution, not place their hands on the Constitution and pledge to enforce one particular interpretation of the Bible. The Constitution prohibits laws that discriminate against any group of citizens. That includes race, religion, sexual orientation and gender. It doesn’t matter how long the practice has been in effect. Equally important, states can’t grant special rights as it affirms equal rights.

If America stands for anything, it’s equal opportunity for all. Discrimination is un-American. If you have two children or grandchildren and one grows up straight and the other gay, you still love them equally. You know it’s wrong for the government to discriminate between them. Marriage equality laws simply prohibit discrimination between one American and another.

In sales that is called the assumptive close and NO it is not wrong for governments to protect citizens from harm either self inflicted or otherwise. You are among the few who have fallen for their marketing campaign...most Americans think it is a filthy habit self inflicted. Typhoid Mary was isolated for the good of the public violating her "rights" and disease laden gay bangers should be to. The change is they have gathered some political power.
If my grandchild commits murder he needs to be in jail. I will still visit but not break him out and become a criminal to. Sodomy is a crime against man and God.

Thank you for your comments even though they offer no rebuttal to my point that the Constitution prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation.

I also believe the Constitution protects you and I from those who would impose their religious views and opinions on the rest of the citizens.

My religion applies only my bedroom.

Unfortunately, in America we've yet to understand that reason doesn't put hate in people's hearts, and worse, reason won't remove it.

...the founders had no such idea in the constitution about protecting perversion. What a silly unhistorical assumption. You are also not honest and turned my words to hate. I hate no one much less the sick in behavior who desperately need the help of those who love them...not cheers for dangerous unhealthy behavior. You are the hater...the hater of God's rules.
Try morality for a happy life.
