To Santa Fe - Getting there

I usually post about things political, but since we're on a two week odessey to Santa Fe, I thought I'd document the experience here.

We left Wednesday, taking the 'northern route,' going through the Oklahoma panhandle and over to Clayton NM, and then on to Santa Fe.

As we approached Springer, NM, we encountered a violent storm with 60 mph winds blowing torrential rain and an a deluge of pea sized hail. The temperature plunged to 40 degrees from 78 degrees in less than 10 minutes!

This went on for about 20 minutes forcing all traffic to come to a stop. The town of Springer was flooded and streets and the one underpass unnavigable. We were able to make it to a corner convenience store for shelter.

Most startling was the hail. Most of it was pea sized and the total amount that fell covered the streets and yards. In some places, it was close to 2" deep. Pictures are below.

The rest of the trip was delightful and the scenery is breathtaking.
