I was a late adapter. I bought my first Apple product, a MacBook Pro laptop in 2009.
My wife, channeling my adoration for my laptop, bought a iMac the following year. We both have purchased several accessories along the way.
The impact of the boxes these products came in didn't hit me until I read a post by Arron Sorkin at the Daily Beast earlier today. His last line is, "I wrote this on a Mac that I loved taking out of the box."
The Box. Everyone who has purchased a Mac has had some level of excitement from just opening the amazing box and marveling at it's design and the ingenuity of it's construction. Regardless of the product inside, Steve Jobs and his company made sure that the experience of opening their special boxes added to your satisfaction and was just like the "icing on the cake" of building a long term personal relationship to the company and its products.
If you own a Mac, you know what I'm talking about.
